The Golden Gate Akita Club (GGAC) was established in 1970 and is a member of the ACA. As of the Spring of 1995, GGAC received the American Kennel Club’s (AKC) approval for the holding of its First Independent Akita Specialty Show, Sweepstakes Competition and Obedience Trial on March 9, 1996. The goals of the Club and its membership are to: Encourage and promote quality in the breeding of purebred Akitas; do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of Akitas by providing educational information about the breed to its members and the general public; and encourage good sportsmanship at dog shows.

We host educational and fun activities throughout the year, including benching at the Cow Palace All Breed Dog Show, exhibiting at the San Francisco Cherry Blossom Festival and marching in their parade, holding a Summer picnic in the park, an Akita Puppy Fun Match, participate in local pet fairs, inviting guest speakers, annual Christmas Holiday party, a licensed AKC point show and more.
